    Police were investigating an apparent stabbing Monday that ended in the death of a Portales man. According to Capt. Lonnie Berry of the Portales Police Department, at approximately 5 p.m. Monday officers found Don Chapman inside a residence at 901 S. Main in Portales suffering from wounds and semi-concious. He was transported to Roosevelt General Hospital and later transferred by helicopter to a Lubbock hospital. He later died there.     Tomatoes weren’t available but squash, onions and various herbs were plentiful.   • Summer school not in session at PHS

    For the past several years, Portales High School students who fail to collect necessary credits in a given school year didn’t go to summer school — instead, they participate in a different type of credit recovery program.     A Clovis man was transported to Roosevelt General Hospital shortly before 5 p.m. Monday after being involved in a one-vehicle rollover. The accident occurred in front of the Midway Convention Center on U.S. 70 when the northbound Chrysler New Yorker left the roadway on the right side. Roosevelt County Sheriff Darren Hooker said the vehicle traveled through the ditch until it hit a concrete culvert causing it to roll several times.
