Summer school not in session at PHS

For the past several years, Portales High School students who fail to collect necessary credits in a given school year didn’t go to summer school — instead, they participate in a different type of credit recovery program.

Instead of coming back to school over the summer to make up lost credits, students wishing to get back on track for graduation can give up an elective class to perform assigned work and be tested on the material.

“Because of (the kids’) attitude a lot of times,” Portales High School principal Melvin Nusser said. “I believe that they give up the desire to graduate.
