    Peanut acreage in the Portales valley is down, but prices are high, a local grower has said. Portales valley stretches from Floyd to Arch. Roosevelt County peanut farmer Wayne Baker said contracts for peanuts are offering $950 per ton for conventional peanuts and $1,400 per ton for organic peanuts, although farmers don’t plant the crop until May.     A Clovis man was arrested for possession of burglary tools early Tuesday morning in Portales, according to Portales police. Deputy Chief Lonnie Berry said an officer found a Suburban sitting outside a business on U.S. 70 about 2:50 a.m. Tuesday. The officer thought he saw someone get out of the car.     The United Way of Eastern New Mexico raised $522,599 during its 2010-11 campaign, according to a release Monday from the organization. The amount raised is up about 1 percent from last year’s total of $514,694. But the total is about 10 percent below the 2008 total of $580,000 raised between Curry and Roosevelt counties.     A fire caused by a child playing with matches burned a shed to the ground Monday, said Portales firefighter Steven Cain. The shed in the 1500 block of South Roosevelt Road 7 and its contents were a total loss, but there were no injuries or other damage.     Agriculture this year saw good harvests overall, an increase in cotton and a little relief for dairy owners. Floyd farmer Allen Deen said Roosevelt County had 75 percent more cotton than normal this year, and Kenny Whitecotton of Strippers Custom Harvesting estimated the county had 5,000 to 6,000 acres of the crop.
