Portales woman receives prison sentence

Athena Shepherd, charged with abusing her then-10-year-old stepdaughter in September 2009, was sentenced to three years in prison and one year of probation in the case on Jan. 5, according to Ninth Judicial District Court records.

She was given one year of pre-sentence confinement credit.

Shepherd pleaded guilty and was sentenced under a plea agreement, according to the records.
