Hobbs topples Lady Rams for second time

PORTALES - The Hobbs Lady Eagles seem to have Portales High's number this season.

Sporting a modest 8-8 overall record coming into Tuesday's matchup, Hobbs pulled away down the stretch in all three sets and posted a 25-18, 25-22, 25-18 victory over the Lady Rams at the Ram Athletic Center.

It was the Class 5A Lady Eagles' second win this season over PHS (12-3), the other also coming in three games at Hobbs in the season opener.

Still, first-year Lady Rams coach Jacki Bailey said her squad showed improvement from the earlier clash.

"I think we played much better than we did at Hobbs," Bailey said. "It was a good game; we battled hard. It's just that they had a lot more offensive power than we did.

"We want to take this loss and learn from it, and get better."

There weren't many stats that jump out for Portales as the Lady Eagles controlled things pretty much from get-go. Senior Kylyie Paden led the Lady Rams with six kills, followed by Adrianna Garcia with five.

Defensively, senior libber Teagan Faust earned 13 digs, while senior setter Riley Shillings collected 13 assists.

Portales was scheduled to participate in the Clovis Invitational on Saturday. The next outing for the Lady Rams after that is their District 4-4A opener on Oct. 19 when Roswell Goddard visits the RAC.
