Elk licenses available soon

A total of 565 cow elk licenses will be available online at 10 a.m. Nov. 18, to hunters who did not already hold an elk license this season.

Licenses will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, only on the state Department of Game and Fish Web site, http://www.wildlife.state.nm.us .

The licenses are for antlerless elk in various game management units statewide. The hunts will include 200 licenses for muzzleloaders or bows only, and 365 licenses for any legal sporting arm.

The special late-season cow elk hunts are designed to achieve harvest goals and provide additional elk hunting opportunities.

License fees are $61 for residents, $333 for nonresidents and $768 for nonresidents wishing to purchase a Valle Vidal cow license. License fees will be charged at the time of successful online application.

Licenses will be mailed to successful applicants as soon as possible after Nov. 18.

ENMU offering ‘Spoon River Anthology’

The Eastern New Mexico University Department of Theatre and Dance will perform the play “Spoon River Anthology” at 7 p.m. Nov. 15, at 2 p.m. Nov. 16 and at 7 p.m. Nov. 17-18 at the University Theater Center. Performances will be held in the Studio Theatre, and are free and open to the public.

“Spoon River Anthology” is based on a book of the same name published in 1915, which uses short poems and stories to describe life in a small town. The play and book are based on the premise that all of the townspeople have died and are coming back to life to tell their stories and secrets.

Assistant Professor of Theatre Anne Beck chose this to compare and contrast how life in small towns has changed and stayed the same.

The piece was selected because it can accommodate any class size as it has more than 60 parts. Many students are assuming the roles of multiple characters.
