Obituary: Margaret Beachum

Margaret Beachum, age 88, passed away on Monday, December 18, 2023, in her home in Clovis, New Mexico. She was called home to glory with her family by her side. Heaven gained a loving mother, sister, aunt, cousin, grandmother, and friend.

Visitation to be held on Thursday, December 28, 2023, 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Chapel of Angels, 1430 Thornton Street. Funeral service to be held on Friday, December 29, 2023, at 11:00 am, The Chapel, 1500 Thornton Street with Pastor Raymond Beachum officiating. Her grandsons, Walter Rainey, Jr., Jamar Rainey, Willie McCray III, Jimmy Beachum III, Elijah Valley, Jr., Brian Beachum, Steven Beachum, Raymond Beachum II, Thelonious Richardson II, will serve as pallbearers. Burial to follow at Mission Garden of Memories, 2900 W 7th Street.

Margaret was born on September 20, 1935, to Roy Brown and Almarie Guyton in Clarksville, TX. Margaret was educated in the Clarksville and Houston public school systems. Margaret was married to the late Jimmy Lee Beachum, Sr., in 1952 and 12 children were born from this union. She enjoyed shopping, bingo, competing in the Senior Olympics, and going to church. She was also an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. Margaret enjoyed going to the opening season pitch for the Little Leagues, and she was the first to open a concession stand at Western League Baseball field. She was also a member of the NAACP for over 40 years.

Survivors include her children; Raymond (Karen) Beachum of Clovis, NM, Larry Beachum, Ervin (Julie) Beachum both of Wichita, KS, Sherry (Willie) McCray of Clovis, NM, Gloria (Elijah Sr.) Valley of England, Reginald (Janice) Beachum, Marvin Beachum both of Clovis, NM, Brenda Richardson of Lubbock, TX, two sisters; Gertrude (John, Sr.) Baker of Wichita, KS, and Etta Jean Brown of Dallas, TX, daughter-in-law; Valaska Beachum of Flower Mound, TX, 24 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins, She is preceded in death by her parents; Roy Brown, and Almarie Guyton, four sons; Donald Beachum, Curtis Beachum, Perry Beachum, and Jimmy L. Beachum, Jr., one brother; Roy Brown, and one sister; Oraneil Jones.
