Clovis police to hold National Night Out on Aug. 1

CLOVIS — Clovis Police will host a “National Night Out” on August 1 from 6:30pm to dark, at Greene Acres Park,

The event will be part of a national series of events marking the 40th observance of National Night Out, which, according to a Clovis Police news release, “is designed to: heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for, and participation in, local crime prevention efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, and send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.”

The observation will be among 15,000 in communities from all 50 states, the news release stated

Sergeant Moe Parker Clovis Police said in the release that the National Night Out allows children to interact with law enforcement and see that officers are there to help.

“It brings the community out, shows a presence – that the community itself is not going to stand for crime in the neighborhood,” he said in the release. “And it fosters a closer relationship with the police and the community.”

Fun and games for kids and adults will be available, ane local agencies will display patrol and specialty vehicles.

Child ID Kits, information handouts will be available ajd local officers will answer questions,.

Participating agencies include Clovis Police, New Mexico State Police, Curry County Sheriff’s Department, Emergency Management, Cannon Security Forces, and several more.

The City is expecting Aerocare to land their helicopters during this event. Some activities include a Dunk-A-Cop dunking booth, doughnut eating contest, caution tape maze, Curry County DWI Task Force DWI Karts, bouncy houses, and SWAT display.

New this year, kids will be able to dip their hands in washable, non-toxic paint and place their hands on a vinyl police banner that will later be displayed at the police station. The activity is hoping to send the message: “We all have a hand in fighting crime.”
