Lady Cats capture Dexter Invitational

ROSWELL — Junior Jolei Adkins shot 49-41 — 90 for medalist honors on Thursday, leading Clovis High’s girls to the team title in the Dexter Invitational golf tournament, played at the New Mexico Military course.

Clovis finished with a team score of 389, nine strokes ahead of the host Lady Demons. Portales was third in a field of three full squads at 456.

Juniors Kiaya Gallegos and Gracie Beevers both finished at 97 for the Lady Cats. The top scorer for Portales was Cydnee Massey at 54-54 — 108.

Texico junior Liz Elam was second to Adkins individually, shooting 47-46 — 93. The Lady Wolverines competed with just three players.

Roswell High took the championship in a four-team boys field, shooting 326. Clovis High came in third at 395.

The Wildcats brought the minimum four players for a team. They were led by a 43-50 — 93 from Gavin Anderson.

Hobbs, which also had an incomplete squad, had the boys medalist in Peyton Jones, who came in at 1-under-par 71.

Clovis squads and the Texico girls return to action on Monday in the RISD Invite at Roswell. Meantime, CHS and PHS will play in the Lovington Invite on Thursday.
