Clovis man dies after accident

CLOVIS — A Clovis man died Monday evening following an accident on Thornton Street, according to a release from the Clovis Police Department.

Angel Solis-Loya, 82, died at Plains Regional Medical Center after suffering injuries in a vehicle-versus-pedestrian accident, according to a Monday night release from Capt. Roman Romero.

Police Chief Doug Ford told The News the incident was “one of those unfortunate, tragic events,” as the driver was not in violation of any laws. He said Solis-Loya had suffered from Alzheimer’s, which was “probably a contributing factor.”

According to the release:

• Officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of North Thornton in reference to the accident.

• When officers arrived, they found Solis-Loya on the ground between 10th and 11th streets.

• The driver of the vehicle was not injured, and cooperated with law enforcement. The driver was not named in the release. Ford said he drove a late 1990s extended-cab pickup truck.

• The accident remains under investigation by the department’s major crash team.

The department did not have a report on the incident available Tuesday morning, and initial efforts to contact the victim’s family for additional information were unsuccessful.
