Clovis man gets probation

CLOVIS — A Clovis man was sentenced Tuesday to two years supervised probation through a plea agreement on a domestic violence case from late 2017.

Mark Cordova, 19, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery in an agreement by which prosecutors dismissed a felony false imprisonment charge emerging from the Nov. 28, 2017, incident. The agreement was signed last month and finalized this week in the court of Judge Matthew Chandler.

District Attorney Andrea Reeb said the victim was not communicating with prosecutors when the offer was being put together, so they decided to proceed with a plea rather than risk a trial without a key witness.

Cordova’s defense attorney Sam Forshner did not respond to a message seeking comment.
