1973: A former Eastern New Mexico University vice president had pleaded guilty to embezzling more than $82,000 from university funds.
Gene Harrell used the money to buy real estate in New Mexico, Colorado and California, authorities said.
He was sentenced to concurrent prison sentences of 2-10 years and ordered to make restitution.
ENMU Board of Regents Chairman Howard Martin of Clovis and university President Charles Meister issued a joint statement pledging increased vigilance in overseeing funds.
