Fatty foods enjoyed in moderation

One of my co-workers freaked out on me the other day when I made one of my butter sandwiches.

It was toast with a lot of butter. A slice of multi-grain bread pops out of the toaster, I put two wedges of butter on one side, fold it over, eat and enjoy. I usually wash it down with a glass of milk.

“You’re going to die,” she said.

“Someday I’m sure,” I said. “But I’m going to enjoy a few things while I’m here. I bet you don’t eat the skin off baked chickens either, do you?” I asked.

“Eww,” she made a face.

I enjoy nice fatty foods. Not all the time, mind you, I’m just saying that if something luscious and fatty or fried presents itself I won’t turn it down.

A High Plains doctor warned me about this stuff years ago.

“You’re overweight, if you don’t lose weight you’re going to die,” he said.

“But I…”

“You have high cholesterol, take this prescription, if you don’t get your cholesterol down you’re going to die.”

“You have high blood pressure, if you don’t get it under control you’re going to die. And you need to stop eating fatty foods. Take for instance burritos, full of fat, that’s why they taste so good.

I’d bet you eat baked chicken skin too.”

“Ah, well…”

“Stop eating fatty foods or you will die.”

Hey, look, The Lady of the House is always fixing us healthy meals and I exercise five days a week. But butter “sammiches,” ice cream, fried chicken, spoonfuls of peanut butter, macaroni and cheese, baked chicken with the skin, burritos, mmmmm, I love ‘em all. I will enjoy them, in moderation of course.

Besides, food is one of the reasons I came to planet Earth in the first place.
