On Thursday, students, teachers, and community members will take part in a Walk-A-Thon to raise money for Hope Bilbrey, a little girl in Kenna who has a rare disease. Participants hope to make enough to help ease the financial burden of the numerous trips to see doctors in Albuquerque as they seek a cure for her. Thank you for helping to support this event.

Every year the Creative Communication Company publishes essays by young writers. Students at Elida Elementary School whose essays will be published in the next edition are: Reavis Best, Autumn Thomas Cathey, Charlotte Chambers, Justus Criswell, Kiera Hudson, Randy Jasso, Jerry Perry, Haley Powell, Amanda Cross Smith and Shealton Veo.

English III students Kodi Armitage, Tori Bilberry, Mari Lopez, Jewelie Paiz, Steven Russell, and Thomas West have a multi-media presentation displayed at Elida High School enititled: “American Wars in Verse and Song” featuring both patriotic and protest songs.

At the recently held annual Eastern New Mexico University Regional Research Competition, the high school’s new English teacher, Michelle Chambers, won the first place at the graduate level in the English Category for her paper, “Post Modern Playtime: Deconstruction of Time in Two Postmodernist Novels: The French Lieutenant’s Woman and Slaughterhouse-Five.
