Samplings of recent calls received by Clovis-area law enforcement officers, according to reports:

Police arrested a man at the 400 block of West Seventh Street for fraud greater than $250 after three of his checks to a Clovis pawn shop failed to clear the bank. The 22-year-old Clovis man faces misdemeanor and felony charges for the incident.

A Clovis high school teacher called police about 8:30 a.m. Monday regarding a fight between two junior high students on high school property. The teacher said each had taken items from the other without permission, began hitting and kicking each other, and refused to stop when ordered to separate.

Police issued both students juvenile citations for public affray.

About 9 a.m. Tuesday, police responded to a fight that broke out at a Clovis alternative school after two 14-year-old boys got off the school bus.

One boy said the other had been looking at him, so he said, “If you’ve got a problem then let’s take care of it,” and then the fight began. The other boy said he had been looking at the first boy while trying to find a seat and had been pushed after both got off the bus. Officers reported they would file reports with the probation officers of both boys and issue juvenile citations for public affray.

Police responded about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday to a report of a dead person at a business on the 1000 block of Mitchell. Upon arrival, police found that the owner of the business had died after falling backwards while sitting at a desk in his office. The incident occurred sometime after 4 p.m. Monday when he was last seen by visitors.

Officers handled the case as an unattended death, possibly due to seizures.

Shortly before 11 a.m. Tuesday, police arrived at a gas station where the clerk said a man had been in the bathroom about 45 minutes and refused to come out.

Police arrested the 56-year-old Clovis man, took him to jail and booked him for criminal trespass after he admitted having heard the clerk’s repeated requests to leave.

About 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, police responded to a fight at the 1100 block of Cameo. A 32-year-old woman said a group of high school girls came to her house and attacked her because they were jealous of the looks of her 12-year-old daughter.

Officers observed a lump on the woman’s head above her eye and took reports on the description and name of the 17-year-old girl she said was her primary assailant.

The mother of a 10-year-old Clovis boy called police about 5:40 p.m. Tuesday to report her son had been attacked while walking home from school by a fellow student who tripped him and began kicking him after he had fallen on the grass before an unknown adult intervened.

Police took a report on the incident and the description of the boy her son accused of doing the hitting and kicking.

About 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, staff at a Clovis alternative school called police regarding a client punching holes in the walls.

Police said they would refer the case to the probation officer of the 16-year-old girl, and school staff said they would take the matter up with the school director.

Shortly after noon on Wednesday, two people were transported by ambulance to Plains Regional Medical Center for injuries following a crash on the corner of LaFonda and John Doe streets.

The driver of a 1992 Honda said he was southbound on LaFonda when he saw a 1986 Chevy entering the intersection at John Doe. He hit his brakes but could not stop in time to avoid a crash. The Chevy driver said he thought he had enough time to cross the intersection but did not. The Honda driver was cited for failure to yield at an intersection. Four teenage passengers in the Honda reported minor injuries but declined transport to the hospital.

About noon on Thursday, the owner of a Clovis furniture store reported about $2,200 worth of furniture had been paid for by a check later determined to have been stolen. Officers took a description of the people making the purchase and the vehicles they used to transport the furniture away from the store.
