    Farkas Clovis High School senior Jessica Farkas won one of 10 offices in the national Family, Career and Community Leaders of America Executive Council. Farkas, who joined FCCLA five years ago, said she was once shy. “I thought it would never be me and all of a sudden it is. It hasn’t quite hit me yet,” Farkas said. Farkas is now the national vice president of parliamentary law for FCCLA. That means she makes sure national meetings run according to policy. She was one of 32 students who ran for national office.     My husband has really contributed to the health of cats. One time he had 23 cats in his barn. He fussed about so many cats, but I noticed he kept buying cat food. A car hit one mother cat. Emmitt tried desperately to feed her baby kittens with a doll bottle, but they were too weak. One winter day Emmitt found a small kitten at our doorstep. He picked it up, and it died in his hands. Kim Luna of Portales studied math in school but was hired to teach computer science classes in the early 1980s at Eastern New Mexico University at the Clovis and Portales campuses. Luna, 54, soon returned to math and taught the subject for 30 years. She officially retired at the beginning of the summer but will continue teaching part-time for a while.     A Curry County detention officer who took two inmates outside the jail to have lunch earlier this week is under administrative investigation, Administrator Keith Norwood said Thursday. Norwood said he stumbled onto the trio Tuesday as they sat on the east side of the detention center, eating their jail-prepared meals.     The Associated Press HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE — Holloman Air Force Base wasn’t selected Thursday as a home for the new F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, but the Air Force says the base near Alamogordo instead will be receiving two F-16 training squadrons.
