  • Mom knew that love's growing season is forever

    Curtis Shelburne

link Curtis Shelburne Religion columnist Mother’s Day is just a few days away, but my memories of my mother don’t need any calendar or greeting card company’s prompting. Memories rushed in yesterday with particular power because I was doing something Mom would have dearly loved, something she taught me to do, with someone she never met but who she would love with incredible love, someone I can hardly wait for her to meet. Within minutes, help arrived and the worst of the mess was being cleaned up. I had friends, family, and a stranger who just happened to drive by, all pitching in to get the situati...

  • Portales girls claim tennis openers

Staff report Though one win came a little easier than expected, it was a fairly good day for the Portales girls tennis squad Wednesday at the Jerry Cline Tennis Complex. In the first round of singles and doubles brackets, all three Portales girls entries came away with wins. Belle Youngerwolf and Samantha Lopez took a 6-4, 6-2 win over Hannah Montoya and Janice Romero of Robertson. In her singles matchup, Jessie Privett took a 6-3, 6-1 win over Raton’s Ila Medina. “They played really well,” Portales coach Ann-Marie Bucks... Full story
