    In conjunction with the high school's homecoming games scheduled Jan. 28 against Elida, there will be a Floyd homecoming basketball tournament. The team entry fee is $25 per team, with a maximum of 12 players per team. Contact Monica Gibson to enter a team at 309-5108. The tournament starts 11 a.m. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children. Concessions will be sold by the Floyd High School chapter of the Business Professionals of America....

    FFA members advance to state The Elida FFA parliamentary procedure teams competed in the District IV contests at Eastern New Mexico University on Wednesday. The Chapter team (Beuford Criswell, Rachel Cox, Kaylee Tibbs, Kevin Yager, Kris Yager, and Shealton Veo) placed first and qualified for state finals. The Greenhand team (Kayla Summers, Tayler Fraze, Kellie Yager, Kenzee Criswell, Bryanna Bradley Karisma Jasso and Kaylee Smith) placed second and also qualified for state competition....

    The upcoming Clovis mayoral election is down to two candidates. City Clerk LeighAnn Melancon said Clovis security officer Rick Tenorio filed paperwork on Friday, formally withdrawing his name from the March 6 election. “He just said it’s not the right timing. That’s all he told me,” Melancon said. Attempts to reach Tenorio for comment were unsuccessful. Tenorio, 45, a security officer with TW and Company, was one of three who signed up last week for the mayor’s job. Incumbent Gayla Brumfield and former Mayor David Lansford... Full story
