Security officer withdraws from mayor's race

The upcoming Clovis mayoral election is down to two candidates.

City Clerk LeighAnn Melancon said Clovis security officer Rick Tenorio filed paperwork on Friday, formally withdrawing his name from the March 6 election.

"He just said it's not the right timing. That's all he told me," Melancon said.

Attempts to reach Tenorio for comment were unsuccessful.

Tenorio, 45, a security officer with TW and Company, was one of three who signed up last week for the mayor's job. Incumbent Gayla Brumfield and former Mayor David Lansford will be the only mayoral candidate names to appear on the ballot.

Melancon said write-in candidates for all municipal positions can sign up between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. today at City Hall. Names of write-in candidates do not appear on ballots, but votes cast in their favor will count, she said.

The ballot includes the mayor's race, four Clovis city commission district races and a ballot question to ban dual service on the city and Curry County commissions.
