Tigers get past rival Broncos

ELIDA – Sophomore Cason Norman scored three touchdowns, including a 60-yard kickoff return in the fourth quarter, to help Elida get past Roosevelt County rival Floyd 46-24 on Friday in 6-man District 2 action.

Norman tallied on a pair of 15-yard first-quarter runs as the Tigers (5-3, 2-2 district) opened a 26-0 lead late in the half against the Broncos (2-5, 0-4).

Sophomore Hayden Rubio threw touchdown passes of 25 yards to sophomore Taten Norman and 3 yards to senior Tresten Wolf for Elida, while senior Seth Jimenez and junior Dylan Dobbins each added a 20-yard scoring run. Senior Klayton Nixon also booted a pair of 2-point conversions.

Floyd got three touchdowns from senior Isaias Nieto – on a 4-yard pass from senior Benton Cain, a 45- yard interception return and a 65-yard kickoff return. The other tally for the Broncos came on sophomore Isaak Bustamante's 2-yard run in the final stanza.

Elida completes its regular campaign on Friday with a non-district tilt at Animas, while the Broncos have finished their season.

Bovina 29, Crosbyton 26 – At Bovina, senior Miguel Lopez kicked a 20-yard field goal in the final stanza to lift the Mustangs to a seesaw 29-26 win over Crosbyton in District 3-2A Division II action.

After a scoreless first quarter, Bovina (2-5, 1-1 district) grabbed a 20-12 halftime lead on a 4-yard run by senior Angel Lara and scoring passes of 4 and 28 yards from senior quarterback Daniel Herrera to Lopez.

Junior Kevon Coleman-Cruz scored on a 5-yard run in the third quarter to pull the Chiefs (0-7, 0-2) within two, and Crosbyton went in front on senior quarterback Dylan Doss' 1-yard run and 2-point conversion pass to Eddie Dunn early in the fourth. Bovina then got a 10-yard TD run from Herrera, but failed on a potential go-ahead 2PAT before Lopez won it late.

Bovina's next outing is in district play on Friday at Hale Center.

Texico 63, Hagerman 0 – In District 4-2A at Texico, junior Alex Fuentes scored on runs of 4, 13 and 9 yards as the Wolverines (6-2, 1-1 district) overwhelmed the Bobcats (1-8, 0-3).

Texico led 48-0 at the quarter and the game ended at halftime on the 50-point rule. Senior quarterback Cade Figg threw TD passes of 27 yards to senior Daltyn Cain, 19 yards to sophomore Luke Thompson and 4 yards to senior Easton Cooper, while sophomore Kye Conley had touchdown runs of 5 and 35 yards and sophomore Bennett Whalen added a 5-yard TD tally.

Senior Blake Curtis, playing his first game for the Wolverines, went 7-for-9 on PAT kicks, while the other points came when Thompson tackled a Bobcats ballcarrier in the end zone for a safety.

Texico continues its district slate on Friday at Jal.

Farwell 47, Sanford-Fritch 6 – At Fritch, senior running back Corey Stancell accounted for five touchdowns and the Steers overwhelmed the Eagles in District 1-2A Division I action.

Stancell scored on runs of 10, 20 and 2 yards and returned an interception for a score as Farwell (5-2, 1-1 district) rolled to a 33-0 lead at halftime over the Eagles (0-7, 0-2). He added a 35-yard touchdown reception from junior quarterback Jonathan Armstrong in the final canto.

Armstrong also scoring tosses of 55 and 31 yards to junior Ryder McElroy, while senior Jackson Wilbourn kicked five extra points.

The Steers resume district play on Friday at home against Amarillo Highland Park.
