Hounds notch 3-1 mark during LSC Preview tourney

Eastern New Mexico University's volleyball team finished off a 3-1 weekend in the five-team LSC Preview round-robin event at Greyhound Arena, rallying past Midwestern State 28-30, 25-21, 25-18, 25-20 on Saturday.

Senior libero Getsemani Carrasco provided a school record 41 kills against the Mustangs (3-9), who faltered after pulling out the first set. The Greyhounds scored the final four points to break a 21-21 tie in Game 2, getting two kills and a block from senior outside hitter Mikaela Garcin in the run.

They then used a 17-5 surge to open a 21-11 lead in the second set, then built a 9-0 lead in the final set and held off the Mustangs down the stretch.

Garvin was one of three Hounds in double figures in kills with 19, while senior outside hitters Darcy Dodd and Kali Nelson added 13 and 10, respectively. Dodd posted a double-double with 17 digs, while senior middle blocker Gracelyn Stubbs compiled nine kills, 13 digs and 20 assists.

Sophomore setter Kayla Ison had a team-high 24 assists while senior outside hitter Halle Sanders made it four in double figures in digs with 12.

For the Mustangs, junior Riley Rabedeaux finished with 13 kills sophomore outside hitter/defensive specialist Robyn White collected 11 kills and 19 digs.

On Monday, ENMU improved to 8-5 in posting a 25-9, 25-20, 25-15 victory over University of the Southwest (0-12) at Hobbs, improving to 10-0 all-time against the Mustangs.. No details were available on the match at press time.

ENMU opens Lone Star Conference play this weekend with matches at Oklahoma Christian on Friday and at Arkansas-Fort Smith on Saturday.

Hardrockers blank ENMU (men's soccer, Saturday) – Freshman forward Parker Yocom set up sophomore forward Chase Stohlmann for the day's only goal early in the second half in a 1-0 victory over ENMU at Greyhound Stadium, the Hardrockers' first win of the season.

The Greyhounds (1-3-1) put four shots on goal in the remaining time, but Mines sophomore keeper Daniel Frietas was equal to the challenge. For the match, he collected seven saves.

ENMU had a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal and notched six corner kicks to none for the Rapid City-based Hardrockers (1-5).

Tonight, the Hounds are in Dallas for a non-conference matchup with Lone Star Conference member Dallas Baptist.
