Ex-Lady Wildcats golfer playing in Underrated Golf Tour

Jolei Adkins, 17, participated in professional golfer Steph Curry's second annual Underrated Golf Tour this summer, where she got to golf at some of the U.S. most prestigious courses and even met celebrities like American DJ, record executive and producer, DJ Khaled.

The Women's City Champion of 2021-2022 said that she was grateful for the opportunities the program provided for her, especially it being her second time participating. Adkins said that her brother was a big driving factor as to why she even participated in the Underrated Golf Tour to begin with.

"I loved how it was the first time around. I went to the Arizona qualifier and this year I just couldn't not go back. It was a great experience," said Adkins.

Adkins said she didn't have a chance to meet Steph Curry himself, but she was delighted to meet the famous DJ Khaled out on the course.

She said it was "really cool" listening to the producer relate his work ethic and craft in the music industry to the training the young athletes put into golf. Adkins said that they even got to see him participate in the golf course with them and talk to the kids through a panel discussion.

"It was really, really, cool that we got to see him hit a tee shot off one of the holes," Adkins said.

Underrated Golf is a program that gathers 96 student athletes from every community, to tour and participate in tournament style events at four regional stops at several golf courses across the country. According to the release, the athletes were able to travel to locations such as:

• The Park West Palm in West Palm Beach, FL | June 25-27

• Firestone Country Club in Akron, OH | July 6-8

• Paiute Golf Resort in Las Vegas, NV | July 18-20

• Chambers Bay in Seattle, WA | Aug 7-9

The young athletes were also able to network with college golf coaches and golf executives, in between tournaments and team building activities at the summer program, according to the press release. In the tournaments participants competed for "stars", that would give them a chance to be a winner for the 2023 Curry Cup.
