District-leading Steers post win over Mustangs

BOVINA – Junior Corey Stancell and sophomore Ryder McElroy each scored 17 points on Friday night as Farwell posted a 66-30 victory over Bovina in a District 3-2A boys matchup.
Senior Alec Actkinson added 14 points for the district-leading Steers (20-4, 5-0 district), who attained the 20-win mark for the 11th time in 13 seasons under coach Shane Perkins. The only years they didn’t reach 20 were in 2017-18, when they went 19-11, and 2011-12, when they were 17-12.
Seniors Ceasar Amaya with 11 points and Nathan Guevara with 10 topped the Mustangs (14-11, 2-3).
In other area boys action on Friday:
Dora 55, Floyd 14 – The host Coyotes led 13-4 at the quarter and went on to beat the Broncos handily in a District 4-1A matchup.
Senior Steven Masini led Dora (15-5, 2-0) with 21 points while sophomore Aaron Combs added 11. Floyd (5-10, 1-2) got six points each from juniors Benton Cain and Isaias Nieto.
In a Texas District 3-3A clash at Littlefield, Muleshoe (7-11, 2-6) trailed the Wildcats by a point at halftime before Littlefield pulled away to a 70-48 win.
On the girls’ side:
Dora 58, Floyd 19 – The host Lady Coyotes (12-8, 2-0) got points from nine players, led by junior Faith Jasso with 22 and freshman Dakota Jones with 12, and cruised to a win over the Lady Broncos (2-11, 0-3).
On the Texas side, Muleshoe (15-15, 6-4 District 3-3A) led most of the way through regulation, but dropped a 62-56 overtime decision at district-leading Littlefield, while Farwell (24-5, 5-2 District 3-2A) scored a 61-24 victory at Bovina (10-14, 2-5).
