Winter is more than a month away, but Monday is making summer feel like a lifetime ago.
Most of the region woke up to a dusting of snow, temperatures near 20 and north winds in excess of 25 mph.
The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory until 4 p.m. Monday with gusts up to 50 mph expected across the region.
“Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects,” NWS warned. “Tree limbs may be blown down. Expect strong crosswinds on area roadways, especially west-to-east oriented roads such as Interstate 40.”
AccuWeather News expects a widespread area of 1-3 inches of snow from Amarillo to Wichita, Kan., on Monday.
"Some of the heaviest snow is expected across western Oklahoma where 3-6 inches may accumulate," according to AccuWeather.
Clovis Emergency Management Director Dan Heerding said the snow won’t accumulate locally.
“The ground is still too warm,” he said. “Wind will be the talk for the day, along with the chilly temps.”
The high temperature for Clovis-Portales on Monday will be in the high 30s, NWS predicts.
And it won’t warm up much the rest of the week. Highs on Tuesday and Wednesday will be in the mid-40s before a weekend blast will send lows into the teens and another chance of snow.
