Billy the Kid film on Amazon Prime Video

ALBUQUERQUE — An independent film about Billy the Kid has made its way to living rooms across the world.

“In Their Own Words, Billy the Kid and the Lincoln County War” has been released on Amazon Prime Video, according to a release from Mankind Productions.

The unscripted film brings Billy the Kid and 16 friends and enemies back from the grave for one final interview to tell their sides of the story, filmmakers said.

The movie, created on a $6,000 budget, was filmed in New Mexico and Texas. Actors include Daniel Cruz as Billy, Kelly Kidd as Pat Garrett, and Scot Scurlock portraying his real-life great grandfather, Regulator Josiah G. “Doc” Scurlock.

To accomplish the unscripted format, cast members studied their characters for months and were interviewed without advance notification of questions. The footage was then edited together for a one-hour, 43-minute timeline spanning the Kid’s birth to his July 14, 1881, death in Fort Sumner at the hands of Garrett.
