Area seniors picked for all-stars

A total of 11 area seniors found their way into postseason all-star basketball games, with rosters announced by the New Mexico High School Coaches Association.

The games will be held May 31 and June 1 at Valley and Manzano high schools in Albuquerque.

The senior-only games will feature four teams - Northwest, Northeast, Southwest and Southeast - in both small- and large- school classifications for boys and girls.

The large-school field includes Classes 4A and 5A, while the three lower classifications make up the small-school participants.

Portales' Taylee Rippee was the lone local player named to the large-school Southeast girls team.

Four area players were selected for the small-school Southeast team - Elida's Maislyn Ferguson, Melrose's Kiki Royal and the Texico pair of Baylee Sours and Jazmine Davalos.

Jacob Moon of Clovis is the lone area player selected to the large-school Southeast team.

The small-school Southeast team includes five area players - Skyler Davis and Dalton Thatcher of Texico and the Fort Sumner trio of Noah Maxwell, Jude Segura and Cory Terrell.

The May 31 schedule features four girls games at Manzano High School, and four boys games at Valley High School. Both schools will have the same schedule - the Northeast-Southeast Small-School game at 2 p.m., the Northwest-Southwest Small-School game at 4 p.m., the Northeast-Southeast Large-School game at 6 p.m. and the Northwest-Southwest Large-School game at 8 p.m.

The June 1 schedule features all small-school games at Valley, and all large-school games at Manzano. At both schools, there will be a 2 p.m. boys third-place game, a 4 p.m. girls third-place game, a 6 p.m. girls title game and an 8 p.m. boys title game.
