ENMU women extend home shutout streak in scoreless tie

PORTALES — The good news for the Eastern New Mexico women’s soccer team is it hasn’t surrendered a goal at home in the last 328:38 of action.

The bad news? The Greyhounds haven’t scored a home goal in the last 197:02, either. The most recent 80 minutes came Sunday, when the team took its second-straight scoreless tie — this time against Lone Star Conference foe Midwestern State.

The Greyhounds (2-6-4, 1-3-2) posted their third-straight shutout at Greyhound Stadium, including a 2-0 win Sept. 24 over Texas Woman’s and Wednesday’s scoreless affair against West Texas A&M.

"You'd like a win, but when you don't give up goals you're doing something right," coach Ryan Spence said in a release from the school. "We got gifts but didn't capitalize and that's been an issue. Alex (Camarillo, goalkeeper) played well in there and (freshman midfielder Caitlyn) Schmidt was a warrior for us and almost played the whole game."

The visiting Mustangs (8-3-1, 3-2-1) held a 16-15 edge in total shots, and had all 13 of the game’s corner kicks. The Greyhounds, however, held a 7-5 lead in shots on goal and were led by Baylee Hampton with two shots on goal.

Sunday marked the team’s seventh overtime game of the season, and the fourth tie.

The shutout was the third of the season for Camarillo, who has played the entire season in net for the Greyhounds with a goals-against average of 1.52 per game.

The Greyhounds remain home for the next two LSC matches — 7 p.m .Friday against standings leader Angelo State and 1 p.m. Sunday against last-place Texas Permian Basin.
