Clovis JCPenney not closing

Clovis’ JCPenney location was not on a list of upcoming closures released late last week.

Of the 138 stores announced Friday to be shuttered by the retailer, there were no New Mexico locations.

Locations in Amarillo and Lubbock also stayed off the closure list, though Texas had the most announced closures of any state with nine.

A release from the company said the closures will displace 5,000 workers, with some offered transfers within the remaining 900 locations.

The affected stores are expected to begin liquidation in mid-April and close by June.
