Acosta, Gray lead way on 6-2A selections

CLOVIS — Clovis senior running back Micah Gray and senior defensive end Fernando Acosta received top honors on the All-Dstrict 6-2A team, released this week following the conclusion of the season.

In girls soccer, Clovis coach Traci Sievers was named coach of the year.

Gray, who rushed for 1,684 yards and 29 touchdowns and caught a pair of touchdown passes, shared offensive player of the year honors with Manzano’s Jordan Byrd.

Acosta, who led Clovis with 132 tackles, 22 tackles for loss and 15 sacks, shared defensive player of the year honors with Manzano’s Alejandro Vallejos.

Clovis had a total of 17 selections on the all-district football team — six first-team, seven second-team and four honorable mention.

Joining Gray on the offensive first team was tackle Roper Stacy. Acosta was joined on the defensive first team by tackle Tyrell Clewis and linebacker Skyler Wadas.

Clovis second-teamers were Stevin Lindsey at center, Lane Kelley at receiver, Seth Lopez at athlete, Austin Contreras at cornerback, Tyler Damron at linebacker and Kabel Brooks at placekicker.

Honorable mentions were for Antonio Martinez at defensive tackle, Joe Gallegos at safety, Rudy Ceniceros at linebacker and Taitt Kuchta at cornerback.

District champion Manzano, led by coach of the year Chad Adcox, had 16 selections, 11 on the first teams.

Girls soccer — In addition to the coaching award, Clovis had five selections to the team, with senior forward Jaci Sievers named to the first team.

Second-team Clovis selections included defender Taylor Smith and midfielder Daniela Rodriguez, and honorable mentions were forward Sofia Rico and goalkeeper Hailey Brady.

Boys soccer — The Wildcats had four total selections, led by midfielder Alejandro-Edwin Medina on the first team.

Second-teamers were forward Elias Ortega and defender Carl Michael, while midfielder Michael Bodine was an honorable mention.

Volleyball — Clovis had three selections to the 2-6A team, led by junior middle hitter Lexi Cole on the first team. The other two Clovis selections, both juniors, were honorable mentions — defensive specialist Kylie Osborn and outside hitter Makinzie Johnson.
