1976: Eastern New Mexico University was making plans for its 43rd homecoming.

Events included the crowning of a homecoming queen, football game, reception for recently retired faculty member John Gregory and a Veterans Day observance.

Kristen Profitt of Raton was crowned homecoming queen. She was majoring in vocational office education.

1956: Groundbreaking ceremonies were held for the new Kingswood Methodist Church.

Rev. Farrell Odom said members of Kingswood and First Methodist would be present for the event.

The new church would be built on Plains Avenue, just south of Highland Elementary School.

1941: Montgomery Ward was holding a “huge sale of new rayon dresses,” according to a newspaper ad.

Dresses were $1.89 or two for $3.50.

Other sale items included flannel shirts for 84 cents, wool blankets for $1.88, snow boots for $1.98 and two-piece snow suits for children at $2.19.

Ward’s was at 307 Main in Clovis. The phone number was 630.
