Q&A: Appointed commissioner comes back to serve

Paul Grider was appointed to the District 5 County Commission with plans to have growing relationships with the various county departments and the people of District 5.

Grider served two full terms from 2002 to 2010, a total of eight years. He was reappointed by Gov. Susanna Martinez earlier this month to replace Kendall Buzard.

He said he looks forward to being able to re-unite with the people of the county and help to serve his county again.

What brought you back to the commission?

“Well, first of all, I enjoyed serving the last time. Mostly, my district had a vacancy and I felt that it needed to be filled.”

What issues do you feel are important this term?

“I'm really currently working with my fellow commissioners and the county manager to get updated on the issues. Once I am fully updated I can set my priorities where they need to be.”

What did you miss about being on the commission?

“I enjoyed serving the county and the people. I liked doing what I could to work on whatever needed working on at the time. I always like making improvements where improvements are possible.”

What do you plan to change about your approach this time around?

“I feel like I had a good working relationship with the departments. I plan to continue in generally the same manner. I'd like to have an open door policy; if the departments or the people have an issue, they can always talk to me.”
