1995: The Clovis Police Department announced plans for a “positive seat-belt reinforcement campaign,” the Clovis News Journal reported.

Officers planned to target families using their seat belts, thank them for employing the safety devices, and give them a ticket for a chance to win a prize at the end of the campaign.

Prizes included a 19-inch RCA color TV with remote control, a CD stereo system, a basketball goal set and a $100 gift certificate.link

1985: Clovis Model Airplane Drivers Society prepared for its sixth annual Fun Fly at Ned Houk Park.

Promoters said light, propeller-driven planes could fly for up to 20 hours without refueling and top out near 250 mph.

1933: Fire, alleged to have started from a cigarette burning in a wastebasket, destroyed four buildings in Logan, including the Florencio Martinez general store, a neighboring grocery store and two warehouses.

Martinez was one of the Quay County community’s earliest settlers, his store one of its oldest.

On TV …

1959: NBC launched “Bonanza.”

The show, starring Lorne Greene, Michael Landon and Dan Blocker, ran until 1973, according to the Web site “Timelines of history.”
