1955: A Portales parent had been fined $25 for allowing a 15-year-old son to drive without a license.

Judge F. T. Burke said the law makes the parent liable for the fine and also for any violation of traffic laws and property damage that occur while a child is driving without a license, The Portales Valley News reported.

1945: Fire damaged the building housing parachutes and fabricating equipment at Clovis Army Air Field.

Maj. Charles Reming said much of the equipment and material were removed and saved from damage.

Air Field officials did not disclose the cause of the fire, but told The Portales Daily News it was "not the result of any negligence."

1955: Dean’s Automotive Service at 105 S. Abilene in Portales invited customers to take the new Packard “with torsion-level ride” for a spin. “Let the ride decide,” a newspaper ad urged.
