Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

Notebook — June 6

Pioneer Days...

• Two big events today for Pioneer Days in Clovis. The annual parade is at 10 a.m. on Main Street downtown. The Chuck Wagon Cook-off follows at 12:30 p.m. at the Curry County Fairgrounds.

Salute the chiefs...

• Tuesday is your chance to salute Clovis police Chief Steve Sanders and his Chief Deputy Mike Ingram. There's a retirement party for both from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at city hall.

Music, music, music...

• Get you some of the Old Tyme Music at the concert today at Oasis State Park. Fun starts at 7 p.m. There's a $5 entrance fee if you don't have a state park pass.

Pet peeves...

• Drivers in the left lane who don't put on their turn signal until the light turns green. ... Public officials who say things during interviews like "You're not going to print this are you?" ... Having to file a public records request to look at any document in Curry County (not the case with Clovis). And so it goes...
