A man accused of killing a Clovis man Friday in Farwell was arrested Saturday night at his home, according to a press release from Curry County Sheriff Wesley Waller.

Francisco Javier Moreno Gutierrez, 38, of Clovis, was arrested in the 3000 block of West Brady around 7 p.m. He’s accused of the shooting death of Rogelio Morales, 23, of Clovis, Friday afternoon at Tuls Cattle Company No. 4, four miles east of Farwell.

“They didn't know each other; they were just acquaintances at work,” Parmer County Chief Deputy Joe Orozco said Monday. Orozco said a motive hasn’t been established on the killing remains under investigation.

Orozco said the Parmer County Sheriff's office is waiting extradition of Gutierrez “so he can come back to Texas to stand trial.”

Gutierrez is being held “as a fugitive from justice pending charges from another state,” according to Waller.

According to the release, Gutierrez was taken into custody without incident and the weapon suspected of being used in the slaying was seized.

Orozco said the weapon was a handgun.

Morales’ body, according to Orozco, was taken to Lubbock for an autopsy. He was declared dead at 3 p.m. Friday by the justice of the peace, Orozco said.

Morales died from multiple gunshot wounds, officials have said.
