Empty stocking fund: Family K

Editor’s Note: All information is provided by Salvation Army Commander Lt. Kelly Berggren.

• Today’s Focus: Family K

• Household members: 6

• Children: 4

• Special circumstance: This family struggled through financial hardships this year that limit their ability to give their four children a Christmas. “I did not even put up a Christmas tree so that the children would not get too excited,” the mother explained. The mother has medical bills and can only work a few hours a week, and the father spent months unemployed after the dairy he worked at closed down. The couple’s two boys are ages 11 and 14, and the girls are 4 and 8.

• Who’s helped: More than 200 families who’ve asked the Salvation Army to help make Christmas special.

• Donations: Clovis, can be dropped off at the Clovis News Journal, 521 Pile St., or mailed to P.O. Box 1689, Clovis, NM 88102. Portales, can be dropped off at the Portales News-Tribune, 101 E. 1st St., or mailed to P.O. Box 848, Portales, NM, 88130. Envelopes should be clearly marked “Empty Stocking Fund.” Checks must be payable to The Salvation Army.

Contributions will be forwarded to the Salvation Army office, 317 E. Second St., Clovis, or gifts may be purchased for specific children under 12 by choosing an angel tag off special trees located at North Plains Mall, the Curry County Courthouse and Diamonds Evermore. Toys can be dropped off with their angel tag at any of those locations and the Clovis/Curry County Chamber of Commerce.
