Coyotes drub overmatched Pine Hill

DORA — The Dora Coyotes earned more than their fourth game of the season Friday night.

They won praise from their coach about how they handled themselves in a 76-6 rout of Pine Hill, which is playing football for the first time in six years.

The game was stopped at halftime by the state’s 50-point mercy rule.

“I really liked our sportsmanship tonight,” Coyotes coach Mason McBee said. “Pine Hill is a beginning program and we wish them well in the future.”

Running back Hadyen Skinner scored four times for the Coyotes (4-2) and Dylan Roberts added two more.

Pine Hill (0-4) is in their first football season since 2008 and many of their players have never played football until this season, but their passion for the game was on display all night.

“We’ve improved throughout the season, the guys are starting to pick up the terminology and understand what the calls are. We haven’t had a football program since 2008 and these guys haven’t played organized ball at any level until now," coach Tim Sarver said.

“So right now, we’re not worried about winning, just the basics.”

The Warriors scored their only points of the game when Miguel Poblano hit JoJo Lee on a slant route for a 32-yard pass to cut their deficit to 14-6.

But from there the Coyotes ran off 62 unanswered points.

Pine Hill may have lost the game, but the future looks bright for their program.

“The kids have been enjoying the games, every one is coming to practice and we even have a few younger kids who don’t play but they practice with us to get used to the game,” Sarver said. “Two, three years down the road we hope to have a really good program here.”

Already ahead 46-0, Josh Garnett and Timothy Garcia scored TDs for the Coyotes in the second quarter, including a 78-yard punt return by Garcia.

McBee got to see all of his players get action, which should help them when they head into district play in two weeks.

“We have one more game next week, then we jump into the district schedule and every one of those games are going to be tough. I thought our offense executed well tonight and right now we’re just trying to clean things up and get ready.”
