Home invasion leads to arrest

A 43-year-old man was jailed Friday after he broke into a home in the 1800 block of College Park Drive and began shooting, according to a news release from Clovis police.

No one was seriously injured. Police said they recovered 15 shell casings inside the home.

Julian Montoya was taken into custody after police located him near the main entrance of Clovis Community College. The college was placed on lockdown briefly as a result of the incident, police said.

Residents of the home called 911 to report someone had broken in and was shooting. One of the residents provided a description of the suspect, which led to the arrest.

Police said they don’t believe there is a relationship between the residents and the suspect and investigators had no motive for the home invasion late Friday afternoon, according to the news release.

The incident began a little after 10 a.m. Friday. Police believe Montoya entered the home by shattering a sliding glass door. One resident was cut by broken glass and a second resident was injured while escaping through a window. Both residents were treated on scene by emergency responders, police said.

Montoya was charged with aggravated burglary, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and felon in possession of a firearm. He was in the Curry County jail on Friday night without bond.
