Border Town Days kicks off Saturday

The 48th annual Border Town Days event will kick off 9 a.m. Saturday with a bicycle contest. The big parade will follow at 10 a.m. starting on Griffin Street in Texico. There will be a BBQ immediately following the parade at the Farwell City Park.

Border Town Days is an annual celebration that takes place every July between the twin cities Texico and Farwell.

The Day in the Park events start at noon. Activities include arts and crafts exhibits, giveaways, antique cars and more. There will be concessions.

The theme for this year is “1950’s Sock Hop and Soda Shop.”

The Schilling girls (Olivia and Gabby Schilling) will perform the National Anthem at 11:30 p.m. for the opening ceremonies. Dolly Shine will headline the musical entertainment schedule.

Shine is a top new country band in Texas. The lineup also includes Chelsi and Kirkland Woods, Hallee Reid and Colton Hollis, Virginia Palaia and Don Nelson.

There will be lots of family fun and events for the kids as well. Some of these include a Ferris wheel, pony rides, water wars and other rides.

All who plan to attend are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and there are no dogs allowed.
