Smoke on the Water postponed to Saturday

Wednesday’s heavy rains have pushed back the annual Smoke on the Water Fireworks display to Saturday in Clovis.

“Due to the postponement, the event will only include the fireworks display,” according to a news release from the Clovis-Curry County Chamber of Commerce.

Greene Acres Park will still host the event, starting at 6 p.m., the release said. Fireworks begin at 9 on Saturday night.

“There will be no live entertainment or vendors on Saturday. With the recent rainfall, the park has been saturated with water making the viewing spaces more limited for the show,” the release said.

Also from the release:

“The street closures for the day will be as follows: 21st from Mitchell to Main St. and Mitchell St. from 21st to Purdue — closed from 5:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. and Main Street from 21st Street to Purdue — closed from 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. The public is encouraged to come to Greene Acres Park after 6:00 p.m. as usual to celebrate Independence Day and the recent rain.

“The 5K Fun Run scheduled in conjunction with Smoke on the Water will still be held on Friday, July 4th as scheduled at its usual location in downtown Clovis. The route will be updated due to the high water levels at Greene Acres.

“Times are subject to change and contingent on weather. In the case of more inclement weather, the fireworks display will be postponed for later in the year in conjunction with another community event.”
