Clovis gets overnight drenching

Staff report

There was rain, rain and a very good chance Curry and Roosevelt counties may be in for a repeat of the overnight drenching that a powerful thunderstorm dropped on Clovis. The National Weather Service was reporting 1.4 inches of rain measured at Cannon Air Force Base and .94 inches at Clovis Municipal Airport from the storm late Tuesday.

While it largely skipped Portales — .05 inches — forecasters said there was a good chance of a repeat performance late Wednesday. This time, said weather service Meteorologist Todd Shoemake, both communities could get hit hard.

Shoemake said the storms could be potentially strong to severe with driving rain and high winds centered over Curry and Roosevelt counties.
