Departing District Attorney Matt Chandler’s longtime Chief Deputy Andrea Reeb was appointed his successor Friday by Gov. Susana Martinez.

Reeb actively sought the appointment as the 9th Judicial District Attorney after Chandler announced in January that he was leaving effective today to set up a private practice.

Reeb has also indicated she plans to file as a Republican candidate for the office in the June primary election.

“Andrea Reeb will serve admirably as district attorney for the 9th Judicial District,” Martinez said in a press release. “With more than 17 years of experience prosecuting a wide range of crimes, from child abuse to homicide, I know Andrea will continue to protect victims, support law enforcement, and ensure that criminals are held accountable.”

Reeb has been a prosecutor in the 9th and 13th judicial districts. She holds a law degree from Creighton Law School in Omaha, Neb., and is married to District Judge David Reeb.
