Accused arsonist in custody

Accused arsonist Daniel R. Lucero, 26, turned himself into the Clovis Police Department on Jan. 31., according to Capt. Patrick Whitney.

Lucero was accused of firebombing a home on 312 Thornton Street on Jan. 22.

Lucero reported to his probation/parole officer with his lawyer at the New Mexico Probation and Parole Office.

Lucero is charged with felony arson, child abuse, aggravated assault and attempted murder.

A warrant for his arrest was issued the day after the fire.

According to court documents, Lucero had been involved with a domestic dispute with Cruzita Baca, who lived at the Thornton residence, earlier in the day on Jan. 22.

Baca told police around 5:40 p.m. she heard glass break in her home and discovered a bedroom engulfed in flames.

A state fire marshal and Clovis fire investigator told police the fire was started when the attacker broke the window and ignited accelerant poured inside the window.

Lucero is being held in the Curry County Adult Detention Center on a $50,000 cash bond.
