The president's "secret school"

The President graduated from the same high school as my brother.

In our family it’s no big deal; my sister went there too. This was all back when our dad had a job in Hawai’i.

They tested me to see if I’d be attending classes there but they wanted to set me back a grade, instead I was sent to public school.

I kid with my brother about The President attending his alma mater. My brother and The President sit at opposite ends of the political spectrum.

“Hey,” I say over the long distance line, “You and Barack get together lately for cigars and drinks?”

This is usually followed by silence on the line.

Some folks don’t quite understand that the Hawai’ian school in question is nothing more than a private school in Honolulu.

For instance I had a customer drop in at the bicycle shop. He just needed a tube replaced so we chatted while I worked. Before I knew it I was hearing allegations about The President, how he was actually born in Kenya and was groomed by the Central Intelligence Agency to run the country.

I just raised my eyebrows and said, “Hmmmmm.”

“And he graduated from this secret government school in Hawai’i,” said the customer.

That’s when I stopped my work, turned to the man and held up my hand.

“Now hang on chief,” I said. “My brother graduated fromthat school, my sister went there and I tested to go there but they wanted to set me back a grade. It’s just a private school.”

To make a long story short, the customer didn’t believe me.

That night I called my brother.

“I didn’t know you graduated from a secret government school,” I said.

“Sure,” said my brother. “Why do you think I’m a millionaire?”

We laughed.

“So, have you and Barack gotten together for cigars and drinks?” I asked.

There was silence on the line.
