Man cited after gun goes off inside car

A 34-year-old Clovis man was cited after his .40 caliber handgun went off inside his car while parked outside Subway and LA Nails on east 21st Street, according to Clovis police.

The incident happened April 15. Police released a report Friday.

The man told officers the gun accidentally fired as he was unloading a clip from the gun while waiting in the parking lot for his wife, according to the report. The responding officer noted the driver's window was shattered and there was a single bullet hole in the driver's door.

The man was cited for negligent use of a firearm and police confiscated the gun as evidence.
