African-American Heritage Month kicked off Feb. 1 at the Drop Zone at Cannon Air Force Base.
The ceremony included a reading of a proclamation explaining why African American Heritage Month is celebrated, several skits depicting important moments in African American history and light food and beverage.
Several different events will be held throughout the month to include the Annual African American luncheon and activities at the Child Development Center to educate children.
