Meetings Watch - August 16

The Clovis city commission will meet 5:15 p.m. Thursday at the North Annex of the Clovis-Carver Public Library.

Agenda items include:

  • A salary increase of 3 percent for city employees, prorated for those employed less than a year or with less than a "satisfactory" grade on their last performance evaluation. The total cost would be $464,680.
  • A vote for an ordinance to issue $9 million for street repairs. The top two streets targeted for repairs, via past conversations, are Norris Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard.
  • A request to locate rugby and cricket fields to Bob Spencer Park. A group of citizens requesting a cricket field has secured funding for a paved center area to provide a consisten surface for the hitting area. The two fields have some overlap.
  • Appointments to the Revenue Review Committee. The committee includes one city commissioner from each district, one resident from each district, the city manager, the city finance director, with city department heads serving as ex officio members and one of the commissioners elected from within the committee as chairman.
  • A letter of waiver of $14,241 in payment in lieu of taxes from the Clovis Housing and Redevelopment Agency.
  • A letter of support for the Clovis Area Transit System for a 2014 grant.
  • A request for a Clovis High School cross country booster club "Milk Jug Classic" 5K benefit run, scheduled for Oct. 6 inside Hillcrest Park.
  • A request for a 5K run in the city Oct. 20. The run, sponsored by Vine Community Church, requires no street closures.
  • Approval of a Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty walk 2 p.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 7. The walk would begin at Trinity Lutheran Church, with turns at Thornton, 14th and Main streets before returning to the church.
  • A request to continue sole source vendors for the 2012-13 fiscal year for poly cart containers, tazer guns, wastewater equipment parts, mosquito control chemicals and overhead lights for emergency vehicles.
  • A street closure request 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday on the 1200 block of Calhoun Street for a children's summer camp.
  • A consideration for membership in the U.S. Conference of Mayors, with dues of $3,489.
  • A report from Mayor David Lansford on a recent meeting with Gov. Susana Martinez.
