Ex-Portales officer's bond revoked

A former Portales police officer accused of having sex with a girl he met as a school resource officer is back in jail.

Magistrate Judge Richard Hollis revoked a $100,000 cash or surety (10 percent) bond for Victor Castillo, 45, Thursday after it was learned the former police officer violated terms of bond by leaving the state, according to District Attorney Matt Chandler.

Chandler said Hollis changed Castillo's bond to $100,000 cash only.

Castillo's attorney Kirk Chavez said his client turned himself in at Curry County jail, where he is awaiting a hearing not yet scheduled.

Chavez said Castillo was in Amarillo to see a doctor and may have been advised by his bondsman that he could leave the state; an issue Chandler said would be resolved at the next hearing before Hollis. State police and Chandler's investigators allege in court documents that Castillo engaged in sex with a 16-year-old girl during a party at his home and in his squad car and also sent her inappropriate photographs via cell phone.

They also charge they found at least 10,000 photographs of young girls on Castillo's cell phone and cautioned they believe there may be more young victims.

Castillo was fired from the Portales Police Department on July 13 for not meeting the terms of his one-year probation, according to Portales Police Lt. Mark Cage.
