Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

My turn: Perfect day to indulge in scary movie

Today is Friday the 13th and we all know what that means. Time to stay up late watching 1990s horror movies, which are far too cheesy to ever scare anyone. But then again, my friends and I could possibly be the only local nerds who take this approach to the day of superstition.

Fun had in the local area last weekend were the Clovis and Portales firework shows, which I personally enjoyed the rain delay on, because I got to experience two firework shows.

I was new to the Portales show and I was impressed with the variety of the fireworks. There were so many colors and a really nice variety of types.

I always appreciate the feeling of community gatherings in Portales. As a reporter, I spent a lot of my time walking around these events and observing people. In Roosevelt County, it never fails that you see people happy and having fun for the simple reason that they are with their family and neighbors. It's something that is always nice to see.

More fun coming today is the car collectors show at 7 p.m. at the county courthouse, so go check out some great classic cars with live music, food and fun.
