The Iron Sons love to serve their community, according to prospective member Josh McVey.

The Iron Sons motorcycle group will be raising funds for the Bonem House in Portales on Saturday by going on an 80-mile motorcycle ride and holding a concert at Goober McCool's. The group said they stick mainly to Roosevelt County for fundraising efforts due to wanting to take care of their hometown.
"Brotherhood and riding together," McVey said of why he wants to join the Roosevelt County motorcycle club. "They're a club that cares about their community and wants to help."
Last year, the club did a school supply drive for Roosevelt County school districts and will be repeating the fundraiser in August.
The group's latest project is raising funds for the Bonem House, which offers residential counseling to children with post-traumatic mental health disabilities.
McVey, who coordinated the event, said club members, along with any other riders who join, will go on an 80-mile motorcycle ride in Roosevelt County, beginning at Goober McCool's.
"It is a really big deal to them that they keep most of the fundraising in Roosevelt County," McVey said of the club. "That's where we're from and we want to help our community."
Bonem House Clinical Coordinator Carmela Lopez said the funds raised from the motorcycle ride and concert will go toward summer and Christmas programs for the children of the house.
"A major part of their treatment is recreation so we like to give them variety," Lopez said. "It exposes them to new activities, which allows them to exercise new cognitive processes and new social skills and they learn how to build appropriate peer relationships."
McVey said the riders will stop by the Bonem House at the end of their ride Saturday to visit the children and provide them with snacks.
Lopez said the children know the group is coming and they are excited.
"They're going to be putting together little posters and thank you cards for the bikers for this weekend," she said of the children. "I think it's amazing that they picked the Bonem House out for this. Not a lot of people know what we do or who we are, so it's really cool they took the time to learn what we do and take an interest."
McVey said along with the ride, a concert will be held at the bar Saturday night with a $3 cover charge with funds from the concert also going to the Bonem House.
"We're grateful to Goober McCool's for sponsoring the band and wanting to help out," McVey said. "She (owner Susan Hamilton-Dick) really cares about the community too and wants to help out so that's good of her."
